Day 3 – Arrive in Florence

In the early afternoon, you’ll get to explore some of the hidden gems of Florence with a guided tour of the city.

Day 4 – Free time

Start by visiting the iconic Duomo, with its stunning dome and beautiful façade, and then head to the Uffizi Gallery to admire some of the world’s most famous art collections.

Stroll through the picturesque Piazza della Signoria, with its magnificent Palazzo Vecchio and copy of Michelangelo’s David statue, and then cross the Ponte Vecchio bridge to explore the charming Oltrarno neighborhood.

Foodies can sample delicious Tuscan cuisine at the city’s many restaurants, and shop for souvenirs at the bustling San Lorenzo market.

When you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, head to the peaceful Boboli Gardens, with their stunning vistas and beautiful sculptures.

Day 5 – Arrive in Bologna

Kickstart your exploration with a guided walking tour, immersing yourself in the city’s captivating history. Day 6 – Free time

Today is yours to explore Bologna at your own pace. Start your day with a visit to the Archiginnasio, a historic building that once housed the University of Bologna. Marvel at the anatomical theater and the vast collection of coats of arms in the library.

For art enthusiasts, the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna awaits, showcasing an impressive collection of Renaissance masterpieces by artists like Raphael and Titian.

Bologna is renowned for its porticoes – covered walkways lining the streets. Take a leisurely stroll along Via dell’Indipendenza, one of the city’s main avenues, adorned with shops, cafes, and boutiques.

Before bidding farewell to Bologna, consider a visit to the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca. You can reach this hilltop sanctuary by climbing the historic portico, and the panoramic views of Bologna from the top are truly breathtaking.

Day 7 – Arrive in Venice

Venice is a city built on water, located in northeastern Italy. The city is famous for its canals, which are lined with beautiful buildings and connected by historic bridges.

Visitors to Venice can take a gondola ride through the canals, explore the city’s many museums and art galleries, and visit famous landmarks such as St. Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace.

The city is also known for its colorful Carnival celebrations, which take place each year in the weeks leading up to Lent.

With its unique charm and beauty, Venice is a popular destination for travelers from around the world.

In the evening enjoy a classical concert in a beautiful Venetian Church.

Day 8 – Free time

Here are some things to make the most of your free time in Venice.

• St. Mark’s Basilica: This stunning cathedral is one of the most impressive landmarks in Venice, with its intricate mosaics, ornate architecture, and historic treasures.
• Gondola Ride: A quintessential Venice experience, taking a gondola ride through the canals is a must-do activity for any traveler.
• Rialto Bridge: One of the most famous bridges in Venice, the Rialto Bridge offers stunning views of the Grand Canal and is surrounded by shops and restaurants.
• Doge’s Palace: This impressive palace was once the center of power in Venice and now houses a museum with collections of art and artifacts.
• Murano Island: Just a short boat ride from Venice, Murano Island is famous for its glassmaking tradition and visitors can watch artisans at work and browse a variety of glassware and souvenirs.

Day 9 – Free time

This is your last day in Venice. Check out of the hotel and the rest of your adventure awaits you.

Our accommodation is generally right in the city centre, so all of the main attractions and conveniences are just a short walk from your hotel. This means no need to waste money on taxis!

We also use high speed rail connections to get between cities, so our hotels are not far from the main train stations.

This varies, but it is generally during the afternoon or evening on the day we arrive in the new city. The main purpose of the activity is to orientate yourself with the city so when your free time arrives, you can hit the ground running.

There is so much to see and do in Italian towns and cities, you can certainly keep yourself occupied without the need to spend any additional money on extra activities. But that completely depends on the type of experience you want to have.

Some people are just happy to walk the streets, drink coffee and enjoy the awesome cuisine each area has to offer. Others want to jam as much in as they can, which means paying for extra experiences. An example of this is seeing the Vatican Museums or the Colosseum. You’ll need entry tickets to see the inside, but they are relatively inexpensive at $40 AUD for each.

We recommend packing as little as possible. This will make it much easier when dealing with your luggage on the trains and getting on and off.

There are some great laundromats along the way, so you can get some washing done to help cut down on the number of clothes you need. Check out our blog on packing tips.

Vegetarians might find the menu selection in Europe less varied than they would see at home. Vegetarianism is not as common in this region and generally the choices are basic, involving vegetables, soups, salads, bread, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, eggs etc. Vegans and those on gluten-free diets may find this region very challenging and may need to supplement meals with their own supplies from supermarkets and markets. Wherever possible we will cater for dietary needs for any included meals, but there may be times when those with special requirements may need to provide their own.
